A regional state university in Alabama’s historic Black Belt, bearing the label ‘rural university’ is an acknowledgement administration and faculty no longer avoid or downplay. Instead, they’re leaning into the notion and turning a once-perceived negative into a national brand that’s assuming a significant role in modernizing higher education in rural America.
The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Police Department has brought back a successful campus transportation program that’s designed with both convenience and safety in mind. Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol, sponsored by ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Police Department, provides a safe option for on-campus transportation during from 6 p.m. until midnight, Sunday through Thursday.
ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Homecoming 2023

Homecoming week kicks off with one of the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú campus’s favorite traditions, the search for the Key to Victory. Clues for the Key to Victory will be released to students beginning Monday, Oct. 9, at 9 a.m. and continuing at noon and 3 p.m. each day until the key is found and turned in at Brock 202. The student who finds the key wins $1,000.

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú license plate

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú has launched a new design for its collegiate license plate available to Alabama residents. The design, which will be available August 1, features red and white University branding, including a sleek and fierce red and white tiger profile. Proceeds from sales of the plate benefit a scholarship program at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.

Citing the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s dedication to safety and emergency preparedness, the National Weather Service has renewed ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s status as a StormReady University. The status lasts through April 21, 2026.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s proposal to freeze tuition for the sixth consecutive year has been approved by its board of trustees. The decision comes as part of the board’s approval of the school’s operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year, and this reaffirms ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s various rankings as one of the best values of any university in the state

This spring’s rededication of a historic 19th-century Alabama church has given the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú a pastoral addition to its roster of campus event spaces.

Though only a freshman, Caroline McKinley’s adoration of the arts is already blossoming at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú. Last fall, she worked behind the scenes with the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Theatre and performed as a member of the marching band’s color guard.

An upcoming addition to the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú campus will provide faculty, students and staff a unique outdoor space suitable for a variety of uses.
