The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú has been awarded a $2.5 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Delta Regional Authority to expand the impact of workforce development efforts through the Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities initiative. ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú is one of only eight organizations in the five states across the Delta region to receive the award.

Human Trafficking 101 Class

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Police Department will host a one-day human trafficking awareness class on Wednesday, June 12. The event offers training free of charge for law enforcement, first responders, prosecutors, judges, probation officers, victim service providers, social workers, healthcare professionals, and educators.

Dr. Valerie Pope Burnes, associate professor of history at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, will preside over the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Alabama Historical Association when it convenes in Tuscaloosa from April 25-27. Burnes was elected president of the Association in April 2018, and will finish out her term as president at the Tuscaloosa meeting.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú has announced a partnership with The True Vine Foundation, in Eutaw, Alabama, that will provide unique new learning and team-building experiences for the University community.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú has joined with AT&T to announce the second annual Alabama Summit on Rural Technology, set for April 12 on the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú campus in Livingston, with Governor Kay Ivey delivering the keynote address. The event features a broad slate of experts who bring unique perspectives to address rural Alabama’s need for an enhanced technology infrastructure.
Livingston State Farm agent Cody Mordecai has funded a new scholarship opportunity for ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú first generation students from Sumter, Marengo, Greene, Pickens or Choctaw counties through The FLi Society, a student organization established to raise the profile of the first-generation population at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and offer support and encouragement to those students.
The City of Livingston and the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú are partners for a two-day planning event on the topic of supporting healthier people and neighborhoods, revitalizing downtown, and strengthening the local economy. The community is invited to bring ideas to a workshop on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at Livingston Civic Center.
