Sharon Valverde has researched moose in Alaska, elk in New Mexico, and mule deer in Texas. However, nothing in her extensive experience in deer ecology and management prepared the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú assistant professor and researcher to dip her toes into the study of bats. Joining her in this research is Taylor Underwood, a graduate assistant in the Master of Science in Conservation Biology program.
Despite growing up just a few miles down the road from the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, Dr. Mary Hanks never expected to find herself teaching on campus.
The Office of Institutional Advancement at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú has announced the addition of two new members on its development team: Chris Lucas, director of development, and Garrett Webb, development officer.
A new scholarship endowment will honor a family legacy at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, its namesake the parents of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú President Ken Tucker. The Dr. Betty Jean and Howard Tucker Endowed Scholarship, endowed at $150,000, is a transformative gift that will provide perpetual support for students for many years to come.
Few individuals know as much about nursing education at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú over the past five decades as Lynn Lashley does. Her journey reflects the program's full evolution, from being a member of the inaugural class of then-Livingston University's Associate Degree in Nursing program to her current role as a part-time retention specialist in the Ira D. Pruitt Division of Nursing.
Creating a warm, supportive environment that fosters student success has always been integral to the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú culture. The university has recently strengthened its commitment by partnering with Caring Campus, a national initiative developed by the Institute for Evidenced-Based Change (IEBC), a non-profit organization designed to enhance students’ sense of belonging and increase student retention and success.

Nick Davis, an art professor at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, will have three DIY sculpture kits on display in a national juried exhibition at the Floyd Center for the Arts in Virginia this summer.
At the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, Donnie Cobb and technology education are so intertwined that it is impossible not to mention both in the same breath. Cobb is retiring as chair of the Division of Engineering and Technology at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, after more than three decades at his alma mater. ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú President Ken Tucker awarded Cobb’s Professor Emeritus honors at this spring’s Distinguished Service Awards for faculty and staff

Lucas Johnson, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy, received the 2024 William E. Gilbert Award for Outstanding Teaching for his efforts during one of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s May 3 commencement exercises. Given annually by the student body, the Gilbert Award recognizes outstanding teaching and excellence in undergraduate classroom instruction.
