This fall, the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú will introduce a new Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Physical Education. Available both on campus and online, this advanced degree offers a valuable opportunity for passionate educators to advance their careers and expand their knowledge.
A new online degree at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú launching this fall will train dyslexia therapists to work with elementary students who struggle with dyslexia, which is considered the primary cause of reading, writing, and spelling challenges.

An executive order in January 2023 from Alabama Governor Kay Ivey to address the state’s teacher shortage has helped launch Alabama’s inaugural Teacher Apprenticeship Program. The Alabama Office of Apprenticeship (AOA), the state’s apprenticeship agency, has partnered with the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and three other Alabama universities to implement the pilot program set to begin in fall 2024.
Growing up, Patrick Evans often played the teacher in a pretend classroom in his home. Although he did his best to educate his two ‘reluctant’ students, Evans, a recent graduate of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s online elementary education program, recalls that his younger brother and his brother’s friend didn’t like his school.

Longtime ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú business professor Dr. Uchenna Akpom was recently named director of the University’s Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Rural Business program. The first of its kind degree program was introduced two years ago at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and features relevant courses that focus on critical issues as well as strategies and solutions related to rural businesses and designed to offer innovative solutions to global rural business challenges.
Leslie Hood was three months pregnant with her son Wesley when she walked across the stage to receive her diploma at Valley High School’s graduation in 1999.  Twenty-four years later, mother and son walked across the stage at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s 2023 fall commencement, only this time, they each received a diploma.

Ashlee Barnard never intended to become a firefighter. After graduating from high school, she considered her next chapter essentially set: enroll at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, become a Tigers cheerleader and pursue a career in athletic training, one of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s most popular and professionally successful degree programs.

For the first time since the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s nursing education program was established in 1974, a cohort of nurses are on their way to earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing from ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.
