The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú conferred honorary doctorates upon Alabama Rep. Artis J. "A.J." McCampbell and Sen. Bobby D. Singleton during summer commencement exercises on August 14. Each received the Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, in recognition of distinguished public service, commitment to educational opportunity, and leadership on behalf of the people and communities of Alabama's Black Belt.
Glen Bridges can find his name on several prestigious rosters at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, and now one of the newest facilities on campus will bear his name. The newly-renovated auditorium at Wallace Hall will be dedicated at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. The community is invited to join the campus in celebrating Bridges’ legacy at the University.
ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú professor and athletic trainer Dr. R.T. Floyd recently received the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Research and Education Foundation’s Lifetime Contribution Award.
A new collaboration among several entities across Sumter County is expected to bring revitalization, renewal and redevelopment to the area. Sumter Renaissance is a project developed through the efforts of the Economic Development Leadership Academy, and it is centered around a strategic plan that highlights four major strategies. The project has brought together leaders from throughout county, including elected officials and business leaders.
The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and the City of Livingston have added a new initiative to a long list of collaborations designed to improve the quality of life for city and campus residents. Together, ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and Livingston have been selected by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a 2018 Healthy Places for Healthy People partner.

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú in the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s welding certificate program recently received a boost of confidence when officials from a national shipbuilding operation visited campus to assess their skills. When tested, 75 percent of the students passed the test and were offered a job with Huntington Ingalls Industries.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Board of Trustees will hold its quarterly meeting at 11 a.m. on June 4, at Bell Conference Center on the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú campus.
Livingston's Loveliest from 2018 Miss Paragon

Bailey Anderson of Hurley, Miss., was crowned Miss Paragon at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú on April 10. The freshman nursing major is the daughter of Eddie and Shelly Anderson. The pageant is sponsored by the Blue Key Honor Society at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Bronze Tiger Tree Campus USA

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú was recently recognized as a 2017 Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú students get hands-on skills training as part of their education, making them ready to enter the work place already trained immediately upon graduation.
