The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú conferred honorary doctorates upon Alabama Rep. Artis J. "A.J." McCampbell and Sen. Bobby D. Singleton during summer commencement exercises on August 14. Each received the Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, in recognition of distinguished public service, commitment to educational opportunity, and leadership on behalf of the people and communities of Alabama's Black Belt.
ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú fall 2019 grads

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú held fall commencement exercises on Saturday, Dec. 14, with President Ken Tucker conferring undergraduate, master, and education specialist degrees to students of the colleges of business, education, liberal arts, and natural sciences and mathematics, , and to the school of graduate studies. Nearly 1,000 students in the graduating class represent some 26 states across the U.S. and abroad.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú will honor a record number of nearly 1,000 graduates during fall commencement exercises Saturday, Dec. 14. The undergraduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in Pruitt Gymnasium on the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú campus. The graduate ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m., also at Pruitt Gymnasium. Presidential Receptions will be held prior to each ceremony and are open to all graduates and their guests at 8 a.m. and noon in the Bell Conference Center.
The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú presented four prestigious awards to members of its faculty and staff during the Dec. 2 Board of Trustees quarterly meeting at Bell Conference Center. The Loraine McIlwain Bell Trustee Awards and the Nellie Rose McCrory Service Excellence Award were presented to distinguished employees.
The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú launched its revitalized music major this fall, bringing opportunities for students with a broad range of music interests to prepare for occupations and activities. The new program is gaining popularity among students as well as community members like Charlie and Linda Muñoz, who have shown their support with a digital grand piano for performances on campus.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú has just been ranked among the top colleges and universities in the state for 2020 in a nationwide ranking. ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú is ranked at number two, second only to the University of Alabama.

Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance recognized for offering top quality educational opportunities
During Homecoming festivities on Saturday, Oct. 12, the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú announced its 2019 Homecoming Queen. Ma’Kiyah Hall and the Homecoming Queen’s court were nominated and elected by the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú student body as the leading ladies of the week.
